Background

The Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 placed greater responsibility on public bodies to promote good race relations. It required all public sector organisations to produce a Race Equality Scheme and publish how they are progressing in meeting both the general and specific duties of the Act.

Developments and new legislation across other equality strands including Disability, Age, Gender, Sexual Orientation, Religion and Belief further requires organisations to ensure that policies and services do not have a negative impact amongst individuals and communities within these groups.

The workshop concentrates specifically on conducting Impact Assessment at the various stages. Participants are invited and encouraged to apply the learning through live policy and strategy application, enabling them to be practically equipped and skilled to undertake Equality Impact and Needs Assessments meaningfully against policies and functions within their service.
